Samuel John Hall Barrett

Samuel Barrett, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and artist, Samuel Barrett, 35, of Scranton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 14th, in Scranton. Born in Keflavik, Iceland, Sam was the son of Kathleen Kelly Barrett and the late Timothy Barrett.

A citizen of the world from the start, Sam spent his childhood in various places — including Iceland, Mississippi, Maryland, and California — before returning home to Scranton. He graduated from Scranton High School and attended the University of Scranton.

Sam was a true artist at heart. He had a lifelong passion for music — writing songs, playing guitar, and singing in several local bands. His creativity, humor, and warmth made him a magnetic presence wherever he went. Whether behind the bar at The Bog — where he worked for many years — or simply among friends, Sam was known for his ability to light up a room. He made friends easily, loved deeply, and was always there when you needed him. Most recently, Sam worked as a shop coordinator for Bazella Works in Whitehall Township — a role he took great pride in, surrounded by coworkers who deeply respected and cared for him.

Sam is survived by his sister, Kelly Wentland, and her husband, Joe; his brother, Elijah Barrett; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He held a special place in the lives of his nephews, Finley and Eamon, and his niece, Fiona. Sam shared his love of life with them—teaching them to play guitar, instilling an appreciation for music, shooting hoops on the basketball court, and even joining in his niece's world of Barbies. He never just played along; he threw himself into character, giving each doll a voice and personality, filling the room with laughter and imagination.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Sam's life — with an opportunity to share stories and memories — will be held on Wednesday, September 24, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton. Friends and family are welcome to call beginning at 4:00 p.m., with tributes to begin at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, or simply honor Sam by sharing music, laughter, and kindness with those around you — just as he did every day.

Condolences may be emailed through the funeral home's website.
