John Norton, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

John E. Norton, 88, of Moosic, died Saturday at Marywood Heights after an illness. His wife of 55 years is the former Catherine (Kay) O'Malley.

Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late James J. and Isabelle Reilly Norton. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish until its closing and later St. Paul of the Cross Parish.

A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, John was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 44. Prior to retirement, he worked for Anemostat for over 40 years.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, John was a mechanically gifted craftsman who enjoyed working on car engines and woodworking in his spare time. His greatest joy was his family and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. John will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his three children, Tim Norton (Avoca); Dan Norton and wife, Dr. Jennifer Swenski (Moosic); and Sherry Kunec and husband, Jason (Mechanicsburg); four grandchildren, Paige and Sophia Norton, and Jocelyn and Collin Kunec; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his six brothers, Billy, Walter, Donald, Jim, Joe and Bobby Norton.

The family would like to express its gratitude to the staffs of Marywood Heights Nursing Home and the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center for the exceptional care he received.

Friends and family may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave.
