Edward F. Trently, 77, of South Scranton, died Saturday, December 21, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Helen Nolan Trently and Edward F. Trently, Sr. (the best parents in the world). A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, he attended Lackawanna Junior College and was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral parish in Scranton. Edward served proudly as a Corporal in the 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment in Vietnam. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and VFW Post 25.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Additional survivors are his former wife, Madeline Talyain Trently and three daughters: Anna Trently, Carol Trently and husband Brad Sherman, and Mary Trently; grandchildren Nina and Jacob; three brothers: Gerald and wife Benita, John E. and wife Maureen, William and wife Linda, all of Scranton; four sisters: Kathryn Dunstone and husband Joseph, Patricia Sosko, Margaret Trently, Marie Gaughan and husband Jack, Ann Zlotucha ; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael, and a sister, Michelle.

He worked as a government employee for over 40 years. After retirement Ed enjoyed fishing, being with his grandson, betting on the horses and being a kind and gentle person.

Cremation and funeral services were arranged through Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, Inc., 1900 Pittston Avenue, Scranton, with a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Cathedral, Scranton, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey D. Tudgay, pastor. Interment with full military honors were held at Cathedral Cemetery.
