Elizabeth Jane Furey (Betty) Favini, 97, passed away May 28, 2024 at Willowbrook Place, Clarks Summit. The daughter of the late Walter and Helen Dunn Furey, her husband, Dr. M. Peter Favini, preceded her in death in 2014. Born and lived in Scranton's South Side until retiring to her home in Benton Township, Betty was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist High School and a longtime member of St. John Vianney Parish at Corpus Christi Church.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family was her joy. She loved her country home, where she was able to live independently until her final months. She greatly enjoyed the company of her cat, Cutie, who was able to make the move to Willowbrook Place with her. Betty also loved to travel, especially for vacations in Avalon, NJ.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Peter (Laurie) Favini, East Stroudsburg, and six daughters, Susan (Dr. Richard) Yost, West Windsor, VT; Karin (Russell) Collins, Scranton; Kristin (Daniel) Houser, Glenmore PA; Lynn (Mark) Volk, Dalton; Lisa (Atty. Michael) Bailey, Wilkes-Barre; and Joanne (Rob Stern) Favini, RN, Marietta GA, Grandchildren Matthew Yost, Russell, Patrick and Michelle Collins, Michael and Eric Houser, Mark Volk Jr., Nathan, Andrew, Courtney, and Johnathan Favini, Kathryn and Joseph Bailey, Anna and Rachel Stern, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Furey Favini, and his partner, John Reger.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Willowbrook Place for the excellent and loving care Betty received during her stay there.
The funeral will be Saturday, June 8, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St John Vianney Parish, Corpus Christi Church, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township, to be concelebrated by Fr. Andrew Amankwaa and Rev. Michael Kirwin.
Friends may call Friday evening from 5 to 7 pm, at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home, 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton or at the church one hour before the mass on Saturday.
