William W. (Bill) Walsh

William W. (Bill) Walsh, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

William W. (Bill) Walsh, 92, of Scranton, died Monday at Allied Services Hospice Center.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Esther Zollner Walsh. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, and after its closing St. Paul of the Cross and St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish.

A 1949 graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Bill served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army in Korea. On his return he joined Iron Workers Local 489, working for 30 years alongside dear friends Murph, Ronnie, John and Pinky. He later retired from the Pennsylvania Department of General Service.

He was a member of American Legion Post 568, the Disabled American Veterans, and the AMVETS, as well as the Knights of Columbus and Heart of the Nation.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Bill enjoyed traveling the world with his first wife, the former Helene C. Prezekop, who preceded him in death in 1986. He loved his home in East Mountain where he gardened and cultivated friendships during his retirement. Though he had traveled the world, he said that the people here are second to none. The smiling faces of folks at Wells Fargo, Gerrity's and CVS, and the relationships he built in his community were very important to him. With great appreciation for the help of his neighbors as he advanced in age, especially Joe, Artie, Ed, and Paul and his family, who helped him with lawn maintenance and snow removal, Bill said it was relationships that made his life worthwhile. He came into this world crying, he would say, but left it with a smile.

The family would also like to thank the many healthcare professionals who provided extraordinary care for Bill over the years, especially Drs. Ira Kohn, Lear Von Koch and Joseph Leo, and the staff at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in later years.

Bill is survived by his wife, the former Eleanor Parodi; nieces and nephew, Kevin Walsh and wife, Kim; Kim Vangarelli and husband, Barry; and Jöan Walsh; stepsons, John and David Macarchick; beloved sister-in-law, Carol Healey and husband, Frank; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by two sisters, Lorraine and husband, Joe Radis; and Kay and husband, Joe Vesey; a brother, Thomas (Duke) and wife, Marion; and nephews, Joe Vesey and Raoul Walsh.

The funeral will be Friday, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., celebrated by the Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, pastor, followed by entombment at Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call prior to Mass from 9 to 10 a.m., at the church.
