Pauline Kearns Shields, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Pauline Kearns Shields, 93, of Scranton, formerly of Allentown, died Saturday, March 16, after an illness. Her husband of 38 years, the late Edward Shields, preceded her in death in 2000.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth McCrea Kearns. A graduate of South Catholic High School, she was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish and a former member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Allentown, and St. John the Evangelist Church, Scranton.

Prior to retirement, she worked for Prudential Insurance and later General Electric in Allentown. She volunteered with the ARC in Allentown and the auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Allentown Diocese Chapter.

Pauline will be remembered for the care she provided to her father, her sister Elizabeth, and to her husband in their illnesses. Well into her 80s, Pauline traveled, often daily, by bus to visit her sister and brother-in- law, Rosemary and Henry Mundt, and her brother-in-law, James Shields, who were in nursing homes. She enjoyed a close friendship with her sister-in-law, Ann Shields.

Pauline is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Kearns and Shields families, as well as sisters-in-laws, Ann Shields, Scranton; and Dolores Kearns, Dunmore.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosemary Mundt and Elizabeth Kearns; and by three brothers, Joseph, Paul and Robert Kearns. The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave. Friends may call prior to Mass from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their exceptional care of Pauline. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E. D. Preate Drive, Moosic, PA 18507. Arrangements, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton.
