Joanne Shea, 65, of South Scranton, died Saturday, March 9, at home peacefully after an illness. Her husband of 47 years is Michael Paul Shea Jr.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Mary Ann Gilday Simrell and the late Francis Simrell. Joanne was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski High School and Allied Medical and Technical Institute. She was a phlebotomist at Geisinger CMC before becoming a homemaker. Joanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Joanne enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, who will miss her unconditional love and support.

Joanne was the most loving, devoted, generous, spirited woman. She spread joy and happiness wherever she went. She always brought a smile to everybody's face. Some of her favorite things were her plants, clown collection, angels, Betty Boop and shopping. She also loved her sweets. She was known for her special love for fashion and makeup.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Simrell.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is also survived by her children, Michael Shea and wife, Nancy; her daughter, Melissa Shea (who had the honor of being her caregiver); and James Shea and wife, Heather. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Debbie McAndrew and husband, Joseph; Frank Simrell Jr. and wife, Kathy; Donna Gotsch, Susan Armstrong, Sharon Keen, Lori Figurelli; Paul Simrell and wife, Lisa; and Rebecca Simrell; her grandchildren, Caylin, Alyssa, Brianna, Emma, Hayleigh, James, Mya and Ava; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St., celebrated by Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, pastor, followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery. Friends and family may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave.

The family requests that those attending the Mass on Saturday proceed directly to the church.
