William Weber

William Weber, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

William Weber, 95, of Scranton, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Dec. 17, after a brief illness. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Fallon-Weber.

Born and raised in Lancaster County, he began playing the clarinet at age seven, getting two lessons a week from his cousin, John Enck. Subsequently, he entered the United States Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. upon his high school graduation. After 13 years there, he joined the "the President's Own" United States Marine Band for the next seven years. There he played innumerable State and White House events — most notably President John F. Kennedy's inauguration and funeral. Bill went on to a career in music education at various levels, and ultimately ended his teaching career after 33 years at Marywood University. There, in addition to his regular teaching duties, Bill really made his mark with the "Music at Marywood" summer concert series.

After his retirement, he and Kathy wanted to continue to make music. They were invited to join the University of Scranton Band and gladly accepted. They spent 10 years there, playing and enjoying the ride. Bill loved to drive and they both loved to travel, especially to Wildwood Crest and Cape May.

Kathy's family adored Bill, and they enjoyed countless good times with family. He also loved his cats, and managed to do a New York Times crossword puzzle each day.

Bill is also survived by his children, Nina Cary (Mark), Denver, Colo.; Kathleen Weber, Houston, Texas; Steve Weber (Chris), Reston, Va.; Maryann Weber, Fairfax, Va.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was a member of St. Theresa of Calcutta Parish at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, where there will be a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 9:30 a.m., celebrated by Monsignor Joseph G. Quinn. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Dunmore.

There will be a viewing Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave.

Memorial contributions may be made to St Teresa of Calcutta Parish,633 Orchard St., Scranton PA 18505; or PMEA D9 William and Kathy Fallon Weber Scholarship Fund. Checks payable to "PMEA D9" (write "Weber" in memo line) and mail to: PMEA D9, P.O. Box 116 , Taylor, PA 18517.
