Florence Talarico of Scranton passed away on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at Allied Services Hospice Center surrounded by her family, after a courageous fight with a brief illness.
Flossie was born on Sept. 16, 1955, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to William and Florence Norton Hannon. She attended Scranton public schools, graduating from West Scranton High School in 1973. Through high school co-op, she took a secretarial job at Simpson Motors, where she would meet her future husband, Joseph Talarico. Joe and Flossie married May 22, 1976. They raised three sons together in their home on Mary Street until his death in 1991. She was a stay-at-home mom, returning to the work force after the kids were grown and worked as a P.C.A in special education for the Scranton School District, retiring in 2020.
Flossie took it upon herself to keep the family traditions alive after the passing of her mother in 2004. Many extended family gatherings were held at her home, and she enjoyed cooking all the family favorites with her sisters. She was lovingly referred to as Mimi by her grandchildren and by her great-nieces and great-nephews. She was Mimi to every kid that came into her life, especially her grandkids' friends. She was also a second mom to many. Flossie loved the beach and took many vacations with her family and best friend, Liz. She will be remembered for her wit, and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor. She loved to read, shop, and spend time with her grandkids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph Talarico; her sister, Katie Hannon Cali; an infant sister, Barbra Hannon; her nephew, Michael Petillo; brothers-in-law, Steve Cali and Patrick Petillo.
She is survived by her three brothers, Bill and wife Ruthie Hannon of Moscow, Pa., Brian and wife Jan of Riverview, Fla., Dennis and wife Shelly of Littleton, N.H.; a sister, Patricia Petillo of Taylor, Pa.; three sons, Dominick and wife Maureen of Scranton, Pa., Matthew Talarico of Scranton, Pa., Joseph and wife Jennifer Talarico of Montrose, Pa.; 15 nieces and nephews; 27 great-grandnieces and nephews; one great-grandnephew; one great-grandniece and her beloved furry companion, Maggie. She had five grandchildren, Mia, Angelina, Gianna, Joseph, and Aaron whom she loved dearly and spoiled. Flossie loved being a grandmother even more than a mom.
A funeral service will be celebrated Thursday at 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton PA 18505 by Pastor Vernon Tompkins of Lawsville Free Methodist Church. Interment at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends and family may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
