John L. Gerrity

John L. Gerrity, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

John L. Gerrity, 62, passed away Saturday at his home after an illness.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William L. and Marjorie A. (Needham) Gerrity and a member of St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity of our Lord Church. John was a graduate of Penn State University. Prior to his retirement, John worked for the Defense Logistics Agency at Tobyhanna Army Depot and other federal agencies in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

John was a kind, generous and wonderful son, brother and friend. He had a sense of humor like no other. He could tell a humorous story that would have everyone cracking up. It often took a while to get through these stories, as he would laugh through the whole delivery. He loved to repeat funny one-liners when making a point or an observation. He enjoyed sharing stories of the good times he spent with his many long time friends in South Scranton. However, in typical John fashion, he would laughingly say, "somethings are better left to memory."

We will miss John. We hope and pray that he is now with his mother and father and the Good Lord in Heaven. Rest in peace dear John.

John is survived by a sister, Maria Gerrity Demuth of Scranton; two brothers, William Gerrity and his wife Patti, Newton Ransom, and James Gerrity, Scranton. Two nephews, William Gerrity Jr. and Kyle Gerrity, as well as a niece, Kate Mangan and husband Patrick also survive him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice.

The funeral will be held Thursday with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Street. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the Mass at the church, from 9 to 10 a.m.
