Theresa VanWert passed away at the age of 73 at Dunmore Health Care Center on Saturday, June 24, 2023, with the love of her family surrounding her.
Theresa was born in Scranton, a daughter of the late John Grippi and Mary Frances Catalano.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the crown jewel of the family.
Theresa was always the life of the party. She was a free spirit who had a heart of gold. She loved life and showed pizazz with her love of big straw hats, wigs and embellishments. She didn't have a mean bone in her body and her friendly talkative nature always led to many friends. She enjoyed playing the lottery, bingo and raffles. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joys. Theresa was truly a humble and compassionate person who found happiness in the simplest of things. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her company and stories. She will be deeply missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Joseph VanWert; and her two brothers, Leonard and John Grippi.
Surviving are her seven children, Barbara, Theresa, Michelle, Maria, Michael, Billy and Lacey; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and five sisters.
