Angela Marie McDonnell

Angela Marie McDonnell, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Angela Marie McDonnell, 84, passed away peacefully March 7 at Elan Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. McDonnell.

Born on March 13, 1938, in Pittston and raised in Exeter, Angela was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Agnes Musto. She was a graduate of Exeter High School, class of 1955, and Mercy School of Nursing, class of 1958, as a registered nurse. She practiced nursing for several years before starting a family but returned to the profession years later as nursing was her passion.

Known as "Grammy" to her grandchildren, she was adored by all who knew her, both family and friends. She loved to cook and bake, especially for Sunday and holiday dinners with her family and will long be remembered for her loving hugs, kisses and words of encouragement, "Keep your nose to the grindstone." Angela loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, was an Eucharistic minister at her church, regularly attended St. Ann's Novena, and always enjoyed the company and conversation with her friends and Mercy classmates.

She is survived by her five children, William and wife, Patricia McDonnell (Jeffersonville), and their four children, William III and fiancée, Diane Kim, Nicole, Ryan and Matthew; Maria and Michael Giesing (North Stonington, Conn.), and their two children, Jessica and Joseph; Patrick and Heather McDonnell (Wallingford, Conn.), and their three children, Jack, Mae and Cole; Christopher McDonnell and Erica Comine (Scranton), and his two children, Patrick and Aidan; and Sean and Alexandra McDonnell (Greenlawn, N.Y.); and goddaughter, Jennifer Musto (Plains).

In addition, Angela has two surviving siblings, Nancy Musto (Pittston Twp., Pa. and Stuart, Fla.), who the family would like to especially thank for her routine visits to Elan Nursing & Rehab and daily while in hospice care; and Dr. Patrick J. Musto and wife, Maryann (St. Augustine, Fla.).

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Elan Nursing & Rehab Center and Compassionate Care Hospice. The nurses, CNAs and staff at both organizations provided exceptional care during her stay.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing Thursday, March 16, from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Arrangements, Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Elan Nursing and Rehab Center, 1101 Vine St, Scranton, PA 18510, or Compassionate Care Hospice, 960 N. Main Ave., Scranton PA 18510.
