Louis Pompey, 93, of Scranton, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Rose Tabarrini Pompey, on Jan. 14, 2021.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Regina Parlanti and Luigi Pompeii, he was educated in the Scranton School District. During the late 1940's and early 1950's, he was a professional boxer, having sparred with the late Rocky Marciano and Sugar Ray Robinson.

Before retirement, he worked at Capitol Records, the Scranton Lackawanna Human Development Agency and the former RCA plant in Dunmore.

He was an avid pinochle and poker player and spent time at the local casinos.

He is survived by his children, Lois Noto and husband, Casper, Scranton; and son, Andrew Pompey. Additionally, he is survived by grandchildren, Nicole Cafarella and husband, Domenic, of Scranton; Jason Noto and wife, Amanda, Walpole, Mass.; and Alena Musko, of Scranton; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Gianna Cafarella, Brayden and Milana Noto; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Louis (Sonny); daughters-in-law, Gail Connata Pompey and Alice Musko Pompey; and granddaughter, Ashley Musko. His siblings, Nancy Pompey Minora and husband, Louis Minora; sister, Edith Pompey Sinex and husband, Gilbert Sinex; as well as two brothers, Andrew and Durando Pompey, who were both killed in World War II and for whom the Davis Street Bridge, Scranton, is so named.
