John J. Ogden, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

John J. Ogden, 97, of Scranton, died Saturday at home after an illness. His wife of 51 years is the former Elsie Wagner.

He attended St. Paul's school, North Scranton Junior High School, Scranton Technical High Schol and Johnson School of Technology. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist until its closing and later St. Paul of the Cross Parish.

A World War II veteran of the United States Army Air Force, he served into the Korean War before working at Scranton Penn Hyde, Penn Auto Parts, Bartoli's Grocery and Nino's Sportswear. He retired as the supervisor of the Long Center after working for 38 years at the University of Scranton.

A member of the 20th Ward Social Club, John was an avid bowler and fisherman, and was a proud member of the Order of Pro Deo et Universitate for his years of service with the university.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Sandy Manley, Margaret Mary Marinelli; Eugene and wife, Deborah Wagner; Mike and wife, Wanda Carl; John and wife, Stefanie Egan; Lisa and husband, Jay Shilling; and Teresa Ogden; 16 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Ian, Erin, James, Francesco, Guian Luca, Angelica, Emily, Melody, Julie, David, Ashley Lynn, Christopher, Jordan, Neaven and Felicia; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barbara Ogden; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Geraldine "Jeanie" Coggins; and his nine siblings, Mary Ellen McKeon, Mildred Cortez, Elizabeth Fasula, Eleanor Grant, Ruthie Mezick, Margaret Graff, Gene Marie Jones, Robert Ogden and William Ogden; and sons-in-law, John Manley and Frank Marinelli.

Friends and family may call Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave. Capacity limits will be strictly enforced and face coverings are required. Expect delays as we ask that you limit time with family and respect physical distance guidelines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be announced at a later date.
