John McGreevy

John McGreevy, 75, a lifelong native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2020. John was the son of a naval chief petty officer, the late Bernard McGreevy, and the late Elizabeth McGreevy, both of Scranton.

He worked as a draftsman and was a graduate of Central High School, the University of Scranton and the University of Alabama where he worked as a teacher, earning a bachelor's and master's degree. He was a master chess player and won many gaming competitions.

John was predeceased by his beloved sister, Marihelen Cerra (née McGreevy); his aunts, Sarah McNeil and Mary Foley; uncle, Thomas McNeil; and his cousin, Virginia Levandoski. John is survived by his niece, Kathleen Vancheri, her husband, Nick Vancheri, his great-nephew, Nicholas Vancheri, of New Jersey; his brother-in-law, Bruce Cerra, of New Jersey; his cousin, Bill Foley, of Scranton; his niece, Jennifer Baker, of California; and his friends who he described as his family, Bob Ross, George Paulishak, Spike Kennedy and Sarah Janesko.
